If you are thinking of adding a furry, four-legged member to your family before the holidays, we have an adoption offer for you. We are, once again, holding our Home for the Holidays Adopt-a-thon, featuring uniquely reduced adoption fees throughout December.
Adoption fees during this special month-long event will be $10, plus the day of the month. This means the earlier you adopt in December, the lower the adoption fee will be. For example, if you adopt your pet on December 2, your adoption fee will be $12. If you wait to adopt until after the weekend (we’re closed to the public on Sundays and Mondays), you will pay a $18 adoption fee on December 8. In addition to all adoption fees, a $12 rabies vaccination is required. See this graphic for a complete explanation:
A new pet, young or older, requires a lot of attention in their new surroundings. If you have a busy holiday season planned, this may be a great opportunity for your family to adopt the pet of your choice and offer him (or her) time to adjust to all the sights, sounds, smells, and people that make the holiday brighter. Please remember that pets come in various sizes, shapes, and temperaments. Choosing the appropriate pet should be a family decision.
Peruse our currently adoptable cats and adoptable dogs to see if your new family member is waiting here for you, then come for a visit during our adoption hours to meet them and see if they are a good match for your family!
Bailey the 5 year old Pit Bull Terrier mix found her perfect family on October 10, 2015 with Michael, Ginger, and River! Recently, we received these sweet photos of Bailey in her new forever home along with this note, “Bailey has adapted perfectly and is the calmest and most loving, happy animal we’ve ever known. We couldn’t be more insanely happy with our choice. Thank you guys!!” We loved seeing these photos and hearing about how Bailey is doing. Thank you for giving this sweetheart a loving forever home and a place to rest that pretty face 🙂
Here are some of our Pet Therapy teams at a recent event!
We would like to say a special thank you to the Port Charlotte Sam’s Club (#6445) for their generous grant benefiting our Doggie Tales program! The funds from this grant will be used to help our Doggie Tales reading program meet the needs of children in this community that need help expanding their reading skills. Not only does this program help the children grow more confident in their reading abilities but they also get to enjoy the companionship of a certified pet therapy dog. Thank you again, your support it truly appreciated!
Our calendars are now available at our adoption center, our thrift stores, several local businesses, various community events, OR you can conveniently order it right here (suggested donation of $10 or more per calendar, which includes shipping and handling). Sue (right), a volunteer for Suncoast Humane Society, recently held a pet food drive at the Bay Indies Community in Venice! Sue had asked the residents of Bay Indies through the community newsletter to bring in dog and cat food, treats, and cat toys for our Pet Pantry program. When Sue came to drop off this generous donation, she certainly had her hands full! Thanks again to Sue and the residents of Bay Indies for supporting our programs, services, and homeless pets. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!
In observance of Veteran’s Day, all three Suncoast Humane Society thrift stores will host a Veteran’s Day sale on Wednesday, November 11. Recently, the first graders at Lamarque Elementary School held their second annual donation drive to benefit the animals of Suncoast Humane Society. During this week long event, they collected pennies and items such as pet food, cleaning supplies, toys and much more from our Wish list. At the end of the collection, the students counted the pennies as part of their mathematics curriculum to develop their currency identification and counting skills. To add to all the fun, our pet therapy teams also visited the school to give a humane education presentation to these awesome youngsters! Thanks again for having us and for your generous donations 🙂
