One hundred and two homeless pets (cats, dogs, ferrets, and a hamster) at Suncoast Humane Society found their forever families in December 2014! We were so happy to see these kinds of numbers for this month; in comparison, we adopted out 59 pets in December 2013. It’s quite a jump and what probably helped was our “Home Before the Holidays” Adoptathon, which featured reduced adoption fees based on the day of the month the pet was adopted plus $10.
Though some of these pets were adopted from our satellite adoption centers (in Englewood, North Port, Port Charlotte, and coming soon to Venice), the majority of our pets were adopted on-site at our animal care center, as part of our Pet Placement Program. Our adoption specialists help potential adopters get to know the pet(s) they are interested in, and try to find a good match between pet and new owner.
When you adopt from Suncoast Humane Society, you get more than just an amazing new friend! Your new pet is spayed/neutered, has had a heartworm or feline leukemia/AIDS test and first distemper shot, is de-wormed and microchipped, and receives a complimentary bag of the Hills Science Diet pet food they were eating during their stay here AND a complete medical history showing all the care, shots, and tests that were administered during their stay at our animal care center. When you think about everything that is included in the adoption fee for a new pet, it’s a much better option to adopt a homeless pet who needs a forever home than any other route.
Adoption fees vary from pet to pet, BUT you will never pay more than an $85 adoption fee for a cat or dog companion. See the adoption fee breakdown here:
- Dog or Cat – $85 plus $12 rabies vaccine fee
- Dog and Cat for Senior Adopter (65+ years) – $50 plus $12 rabies vaccine fee
